Sited on a steeply sloping and narrow lot, Morningside is a new residence for a professional couple who travel extensively. Privacy was a major driver for the design, plus a desire to bring a resort-like atmosphere experienced by the clients throughout their travels. Embedded into the site is the expansive concrete garage and utility spaces, while the main level is elevated above the street. The light-filled kitchen and living spaces open up to an intimately sized pool deck, completely hidden from the street. Running north/south on the main level is exposed structural steel, leading from public to the private master suite at the rear of the house, with direct access to the pool. The exterior of the home is finished with a combination of fiber cement panels and charred accoya siding surrounding steel trimmed windows.
