Kaldi’s Coffee is a St. Louis-based, family-owned company that serves locally roasted, fair trade coffee. The Emory location is housed inside a historic, 100-year old building that once served the university as an on-campus train depot. We transformed the 2,215-square-foot space into an inviting hangout for students and faculty and included comfortable booths and gathering tables with conveniently-located power for staying connected. A large chevron-patterned oak wall serves as the room’s focal point while orange chairs made from recycled plastic Coca-Cola bottles add a pop of color and a subtle nod to Emory’s hometown history. Other design details include traditional tile patterns with bright accents, lighting from Charleston-based Urban Electric Company, and an acoustical plaster ceiling to soften the daily buzz and enhance live music performances.
